Golden Knicks

22 May

Only on New York subways do you find such interesting creativity & visible artwork.  On the subway I captured a golden KNICK statue…. See for yourself.  Is he the ultimate & timeless Knicks fan for all time?

Are you a bigger Knicks fan than him?

The other day in my daily commute I happened to catch a NYC novelty.  Those of us that live in the city often see the various “acts” on subway platforms and trains.  These “artists” range from singers, musicians, to break dancers, and the age groups range from adolescents to seniors.  The level of talent at moments is so moving that I can’t help but take a moment of pause and revel in their offerings & leave one of my own in their tip jar.

At these moments I begin to wonder what would happen if these individuals were given a chance? How far could they make it?  Their ability to hold public forum and captivate an audience in transit & in the toughest city in America is remarkable.  Let me play devil’s advocate for a moment, what if these artists had the record deals, dance troops, & organized ensembles?  Would our ticketed shows we pay for be any different? I’m just saying, it’s something to think about.

How To Make It In America

This new show on HBO is fantastic & captures the aspect of NYC that is often missed. Most people associate images of Wall Street, Broadway, Fashion, and Music to NYC, yet they forget the millions of dreamers who are here and trying to make an idea work. This show depicts a resourceful, street-smart, moxie, and fortitude shared by most New Yorkers.

Even better is the theme song, “I Need Dollars” by Aloe Blacc”  a soulful and musical gift.
